Insects In Amber Fossils

A picture released on April 26, 2011 in Lima by the Peruvian Paleontological Meyer-Hönningen Museum of Chiclayo in northern Peru, shows the Santiago river basin where detailed fossilized insect remains preserved in amber for 20 million years were found during an excavation, in the Amazon region (which borders Ecuador). According to Klaus Hönningen, the find consists of hundreds of pieces of the gemstone made from fossilized plant resin of up to 12cm containing various types of insects like Psocoptera, Diptera, Coleoptera, Hemiptera and spiders, belonging to the Neogene Era. Amber has been found only in Brazil, the Patagonia in Argentina and in French Guyana. AFP PHOTO/MUSEO PALEONTOLOGICO MEYER-HONNINGER
